The Warning Signs

Family or friends may be the first to notice changes in a teen’s behavior. Some of the symptoms that may indicate an adolescent is in need of mental health services can include:

The presence of these symptoms may be temporary characteristics of adolescence. However, some may indicate a significant emotional problem. Parents who suspect these issues should schedule an assessment with a mental health professional.

Inpatient Services For Adolescents

The youth of today are struggling with problems that are unique to their generation. If not addressed, these problems can have lasting effects upon families and other relationships. While some of these problems may be treated through outpatient services, others may require inpatient mental health treatment. Set within safe and structured environments, Springwoods Behavioral Health offers acute and subacute inpatient services to adolescents who may be faced with one or more of the following issues:

  • Depression/Mood Disorders
  • Physical/Sexual Abuse
  • Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
  • Bipolar Disorder
  • Suicidal Behaviors
  • Homicidal Behaviors
  • Conduct Disorder
  • Oppositional/Defiant Disorder
  • Inappropriate/Disruptive Behaviors
  • Emotional Difficulties
  • Anxiety Disorders

The inpatient mental health treatment program serves adolescents, ages 12 through 17, who are experiencing an acute crisis. This program includes a focused, short-term environment.

Program Overview

Our goal is to stabilize the immediate crisis to enable the adolescent to return home and to the community with improved ability to express emotions, self-control, and the development of positive peer relationships. Emphasis is placed on a comprehensive discharge plan that prepares appropriate aftercare and transition back to the community.

The treatment process begins with a comprehensive evaluation. An individualized treatment plan is created to meet the therapeutic needs of each patient, services may include the following:

  • Individual, Group And Family Therapy
  • Medication Evaluation And Case Management
  • Special Education Certified By The Fayetteville Public School District
  • Drug And Alcohol Education
  • Process And Topic Groups
  • Recreational Therapy
  • Parent/Family Education
  • Psychological Testing As Indicated
  • Discharge Planning
  • Continued Care Planning

Multi-Disciplinary Team

Treatment for each adolescent is administered by a multi-disciplinary team of mental health professional led by a psychiatrist. Team includes:

  • Child/Adolescent Psychiatrist
  • Internal Medicine/Family Practice Physician
  • Psychologists
  • Nurses
  • Social Workers/Therapists
  • Recreational Therapists
  • Special Education Teachers
  • Dietitian

Patient/Visitor Information

Incoming calls for adolescents are daily, from 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. Adolescent unit visitation hours are held:

  • Wednesdays, 6:15 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.
  • Saturdays, 10:15 a.m. – 11:15 a.m.
  • Sundays, 10:15 a.m. – 11:15 a.m.

Assessment And Referrals

Springwoods Behavioral Health accepts referrals from the professional community (doctors, hospitals, therapists, social workers, nurses, schools, courts and community agencies) as well as from families.

Qualified assessment and referral staff perform assessments 24 hours per day, 7 days per week, at no charge. Each assessment is evaluated by a physician who recommends the appropriate level of care for treatment. Recommendations are then discussed with the patient/family to assist in making an informed decision about treatment.

Springwoods Behavioral Health is a provider for most insurance/managed care plans, as well as Medicare.
